3 Mobile Broadband Roaming : 3 Like Home

How to set up and use your 3 Mobile Broadband ready for roaming abroad FREE

STEP 1:

The 3 Mobile Broadband is accessed via a Sim card inserted in the dongle. A dongle is like a USB stick and specifically for accessing the internet over the 3G mobile networks. You will be supplied with a 3 dongle and a new 3 sim card for your mobile broadband. Follow the set up instructions provided with the dongle. Insert the Sim card in the dongle in the correct manner. Install the 3 Mobile broadband software onto your computer.

OK insert the dongle in your USB ports. If all has gone well the 3 Mobile Broadband dashboard will open up and you should be able to click the big round green connect button and away you go you are browsing on the 3 3G mobile broadband network.

THE ABOVE MUST BE DONE IN YOUR HOME COUNTRY, so as to check the dongle and your software is working correctly before you travel abroad.

STEP 2:

NEXT (I FORGOT THIS*). Yes it is mobile broadband but it is always based on a SIM card and you must activate the SIM card for international roaming or it will NOT work abroad. Call customer services and activate the SIM card for international roaming.

* I forgot to do this. Remeber a SIM card can only be activated for international roaming in the country of issue. You can not do this abroad as it isn't set up for international roaming. Sorry to state the obvious !!!. p.s. there is a way round this but that's my secret.

OK now you are abroad in a 3 like home participating country and you are ready to connect to the internet.

STEP 3:

Insert your dongle. The 3 Mobile Broadband dashboard opens up. There are 2 big differences. Firstly you will notice the 3 network name has changed to the specific 3 network country branding you are in. In my case in Italy its called 3 ITA. Also you will notice a green "ROAM" box on the control panel. This is to warn you that you are roaming. No problem, just ensure you connect to the 3 sister network. This happens by default and can also be manually selected. You are in total control of which network you connect to. Some people are worried about roaming the internet abroad for the extortionate data costs. With 3 you can relax. If there is no 3 network you will have to manually select another network (if you must), the dongle does not roam automatically on to other networks like a mobile phone does !!

Remeber when you connect to the 3 sister network you are roaming as 3 Like Home. Your normal data allowance will be available as if you are at home. I have a 15GB contract which basically permits me to be connected all the time necessary whilst abroad and not incur any additional costs. AMAZING.

SO there you are connected...abroad...roaming on a 3 sister network...using your 3 mobile broadband data contract as if at home with 3 like home international roaming. Here in Sicily we also have HDSPA which is very fast. That's right I am working in Sicily connected to the internet with a UK 3 Mobile Broadband contract and not paying anything extra, just like i was at home in the office in the UK.
